The Biology Department at Austin Community College thrives on the dedication and passion of its faculty and staff, all unified in their mission to provide top-tier biology education to every student. Principal Responsibilities and Duties

Design and deliver Anatomy and Physiology courses catering to a diverse and multicultural student body, aligning with department-approved learning outcomes and employing a range of teaching methods suitable for community college students and the discipline's standards.

Engage proactively in departmental duties, contributing to areas such as curriculum development, program reviews, student learning outcome assessments at both course and program levels, and other departmental initiatives.

Assess student performance, ensuring feedback is prompt, clear, and aligned with program learning outcomes and departmental benchmarks.

Act as a guiding mentor for students within the science, engineering and math (SEM) programs, offering direction and support.

Deliver educational and mentorship services with a commitment to equity, ensuring no discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, age, veteran status, political views, or other protected attributes.

Stay updated in the Anatomy and Physiology field by engaging in continuous professional learning and growth opportunities.

Contribute to the achievement of division and department objectives through collaborative and constructive participation in decision-making and strategic planning processes.

Play an active role in various college and departmental committees, contributing to councils, working groups, and task forces as needed.

Undertake additional duties as delegated by leadership roles including the department chair, dean, and various vice chancellor positions.

Regularly solicit and analyze feedback from students and peers on course content and delivery. Proactively implement improvements, ensuring that the curriculum remains relevant, effective, and aligned with the department's evolving standards and best practices.

Technology

Demonstrated proficiency using computer applications, online resources, and other technologies for the classroom. Demonstrated proficiency using an online learning management system such as Blackboard to develop and build course content and perform administrative duties (posting office hours, syllabi, etc.)

Principal Professional Standards

Appropriate use of the college's learning management system.

Meet deadlines for attendance certification and submission of final course grades.

Participate in graduation, general assembly, and other official college functions.

Maintain regular office hours to assist students and improve student retention and success.

Comply with published college policies and procedures and meet professional standards for teaching in a community college.

Required Education
In accordance with Southern Association of College and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) requirements:

Master's Degree, Bachelor's degree, or Associate degree in Biology or related disciplines.

SACSCOC requirements may differ depending on the courses taught within the discipline.
