Title: Assistant Professor in Cell and Development Biology

About the Job
The Department of Genetics, Cell Biology and Development (GCD) at the University of Minnesota - Twin-Cities has two tenure-track openings at the Assistant Professor level. We seek applicants in the broad area of cellular & developmental biology. We are particularly interested in applicants whose research programs combine approaches from biology and engineering disciplines and utilize emerging technologies to study cellular and developmental processes and how they go awry in disease.

Research topics of interest include, but are not limited to, a study of the biophysical mechanisms that guide cell shape change and collective movements during development, metabolic control of developmental processes, matrix-cell interactions during gastrulation or organ formation, and the cell biology of signal transmission and reception in developing systems. Individuals studying systems principles such as self-organization, cellular decision making, or cellular cooperation, as applied to translational medicine (cell therapy, organ development, or understanding the role of tissue structure in disease etiology) are also encouraged to apply.

GCD is a vibrant, multi-disciplinary department with outstanding faculty expertise in genetics, cellular biophysics, and developmental biology. GCD faculty span the Medical School and the College of Biological Sciences and have access to excellent core facilities, an interdisciplinary environment integrated with translational research, engineering and computational expertise, and life sciences research across scales from atoms to organisms. GCD is centered in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and Saint Paul, which consistently ranks as one of the top places to live in the U.S. and is a hub for biotech and biopharmaceutical companies.
